Hip Hop Kids in Ensenada

A few weeks ago, I went to Ensenada with Libre & Shente & Eddy of HEM crew to shoot some photos of their mural project.  Ensenada was having its annual Fiesta Callejera in the Plaza de las Artes in CEARTE, the Centro Estatal de las Artes Ensenada.

On Thursday afternoon, the first day of the festival, some amazing kids took the stage and showed off their break dancing skills.  Here’s a sampling of some of the more amazing  moves…

The kid in the blue shirt had the best moves, and he came back on stage at least twice while I was there. His flexibility was incredible, for sure, but his hipness and sheer musicality is what made this performance into genuine dance.  A lot of these guys showed tremendous physical strength and athleticism, and I’m always amazed at the upper body and core strength it must take to pull off these moves.

But not everybody can get into a groove while they’re twisting their feet around their head.
