This Sunday, October 14, at 1 pm two pastors – one standing in Mexico and one in the United States – will serve communion at Friendship Park, the historic meeting place on the U.S.-Mexico border.

This past week officials from San Diego Border Patrol confirmed that the Park – which in 2009 was shut down as part of a massive border build-up – will be open and accessible to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm.
“We have agreed with Border Patrol officials that nothing – including communion elements – will be passed through the fence,” said Fanestil.
“But by breaking a single loaf of bread in the United States and carrying half of it to Mexico, we hope this sacramental celebration will serve as reminder that in the sight of God the peoples of the two nations are one.”

In February 2009 Fanestil was detained by Border Patrol agents while attempting to serve communion at Friendship Park, becoming one of the first U.S. citizens to be forcibly prevented from approaching the border at this historic location.
Friendship Park is accessible from the Monument Road entrance to Border Field State Park. The State Park charges a $5 admission fee per vehicle with vehicle access seasonally on weekends only. The State Park is accessible year-round to pedestrians.

Dos pastores celebrarán el sacramento simultáneamente en México y en los EE.UU.
Este domingo, 14 de octubre, a las 13:00 de la tarde, dos pastores cristianos celebrarán una comunión binacional – uno parado en Tijuana, y el otro en el conocido “Parque de Amistad” ubicado en los Estados Unidos.
La gente de Mexico y gente de San Diego suplican por la paz y la unidad de naciones
La semana pasada oficiales de la Patrulla Fronteriza (San Diego Border Patrol) anunciaron que el acceso público al parque fronterizo se permitirá al lado estadounidense desde las 10 am hasta las 2 pm los sábados y los domingos.
“Nos hemos puesto de acuerdo con los oficiales del Border Patrol y no vamos a pasar los elementos a través del cerco fronterizo,” dijo el Reverendo John Fanestil, quien en febrero de 2009 fue detenido por la Patrulla después de haber intentado de celebrar una misa binacional en este mismo sitio.
“Pero vamos a quebrar un solo pan, llevando la mitad desde San Diego a Tijuana para recordar a los pueblos de las dos naciones que somos miembros de una sola familia de Dios.”
A través de las generaciones residentes de México y los Estados Unidos han llegado al Friendship Park (Parque de Amistad) para convivir y para paricipar en celebraciones familiares, culturales y religiosas.
Al lado Mexicano el sitio se conoce por la cercana presencia del histórico faro de Playas de Tijuana.
